Dr. Shelby Carter practices in Austin, Texas. With over twenty-five years of orthopedic experience, he is committed to providing the highest quality patient care based on the most advanced evidence in his field.
He subspecializes in Minimally Invasive Anterior Hip Replacement, Total and Partial Knee Replacement, and Computer Assisted Surgery. He also performs Hip Resurfacing in qualified patients.
Dr. Carters training, experience, certifications and ongoing collaboration with fellow surgeons allow him to provide each of his patients with sophisticated orthopedic joint care with optimal surgical outcomes.
Most recently, Dr. Carter has partnered with St. David’s hospital to establish the Center for Hip and Knee Replacement. The sole focus of the Center is to provide care for patients afflicted with arthritis. The office and hospital staff will also be uniquely concentrating on these specific disease processes, thus allowing the most precise and efficient care for the patients.

Dr. Carter has been certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons (ABOS) and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedics (AAOS) since 1990. He re-certified with the ABOS in 2000 and 2010 and participates in the Maintenance of Certification program offered by the ABOS. He is also a fellow of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) and is a member of the International Congress for Joint Reconstruction (ICJR).
